What Is a Dynamic QR Code?
A dynamic QR code is a QR code that points to a short, redirectable URL instead of encoding a destination directly. When someone scans it, they're sent through that redirect to whatever URL you've configured — and because the redirect lives on a server, you can change the destination at any time without changing the printed code itself.
How it works
Every dynamic QR code encodes a short link, like trazo.link/ab12cd3. That short link is stored in a database alongside a "target URL." When a scanner's camera reads the code, their phone opens the short link, the server looks up the current target, and redirects them there instantly. Update the target URL in your dashboard, and the very next scan goes to the new destination — the printed QR code never needs to be reprinted.
Why it matters
Static QR codes are fine for a one-time link that never changes. But for menus, packaging, posters, business cards, or anything printed in bulk, a typo or a seasonal update means reprinting everything. Dynamic QR codes solve that: fix the destination once, online, and every physical copy updates instantly.
Analytics you can't get from a static code
Because scans pass through a server, you also get scan counts, timestamps, device types, and referrer data — insight a static code can never give you, since it never touches your infrastructure.
